GET THE LOOK: VENICE FILM FESTIVAL

It’s the ultimate in European glitz and glam – the Venice Film Festival. A worthy competitor for the Oscars as far as all out gowns and jewels are concerned, this red carpet is full of luxurious and star studded inspiration. The oldest film festival in the world, it makes sense to see Old Hollywood glamour front and centre where it belongs. Here, the amazing hairdressers from our North Sydney and Lane Cove hair salons select some of their favourite looks.

Emma Stone

This look was so soft and ethereal it had Emma looking like a dreamy goddess, with the stunning updo created to give her the illusion of a deconstructed bob in the style of the 1930’s. For this vintage look, the hair needs to be prepped with plenty of texture and a subtle curl in order to help hold the style and provide shape. After prepping, the hair is wrapped upwards and pinned under at the back, leaving one side free and loose at the front. This open side helps frame the face and softens the harshness of the shorter hair. For a special touch, the look even had a dusting of copper leaf through the back for added sparkle.

Lady Gaga

The opposite of Emma’s romantic do, Gaga went with high glamour with her sleek statement making high bun. With platinum locks reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, she was there to make a dramatic entrance. The look was created by layering and curling over the bun pieces to create more of an elaborate structure than a traditional twisted bun. We love the juxtaposition of the very modern icy shade with the more old school Hollywood style.

Sara Sampaio

This look is ultra luxurious and perfect for the European style of the festival. Dark glossy locks tumbling down her back and offset by the strong and defined side part. The side part tends to make hairstyles look a lot more done than your traditional side oart so it’s a great way to dress up a simple hair style. Hair quality is integral to pull off this look, as it’s all about the shine and minimal styling. Hairspray is key to ensure there are no flyaways and the look stays polished.

Naomi Watts

Naomi pulls of the quintessential curled lob of the moment effortlessly here. The look is youthful and fun but still styled enough to not look out of the place on the red carpet. Her hair is the perfect shoulder skimming length to give this look plenty of movement and the tousled volume is on the larger side to give it more oomph, thanks to plenty of texturizing spray.
