Ahh the fringe, or ‘bangs’ as our American cousins like to name it: such a classic hairstyle and one that comes in so many shapes and styles that there is zero chance of not finding the one that is right for you.
When K-Middy (or the Duchess of Cambridge to give her proper name) stepped out with her newly be-fringed hairstyle, the paps lost the plot and (we imagine) thousands of copycats went for the chop. With a style to work for every face shape, every hair colour, every stage of life and every personal preference, it’s not hard to see why fringes are back and they mean business!
The Sloans Style Seekers of Lane Cove & North Sydney Hair Salon’s have a look at a few of our favourite ‘bangs with bang…’
‘This is the one which re-started the fringe fascination’ says Scott Sloan of the Sloans Lane Cove hair salon. “Skimming over the eyes and sweeping out at the sides with a subtle retro nod (Farrah Fawcett flicks anyone?), it’s a great look when you are in your 30’s or 40’s and you want to frame your face a little more. And let’s face it, who needs Botox when you have got a fringe?!”.
“Side-swept fringes are so versatile: whether you are looking to just add some different layers, trying to grow your hair out or whether your hair is super long or pixie-cropped, side-swept fringes are easy to maintain and you can style them any how you like!” Says Jordan Hone of our North Sydney hair salon.
New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel is the undisputed heavyweight queen of the bang! She’s done blunt, she’s done side-swept, she’s done wispy. You name it, she’s tried it. Her bangs probably have their own Instagram feed – and if they don’t, it’s about time they did!
“I particularly like this look of Zooey’s,” says Lane Cove hairdresser, Idy. “By slightly curling the ends, she is giving a ’60s take on her glamorous evening style.”
“French actress Marion Cotillard is showing us what can only be described as a full-on fashion fringe. This is the fringe equivalent of a hipster beard!” Says Simone from our hair salon in North Sydney.
Really short, really straight – a little bit Joan of Arc – and she’s even thrown in a part… or is it cut like that? Who cares, she looks rad and if the movie career doesn’t work out she can always go and make coffee in Melbourne!
So, whether you’re a first time fringer or a seasoned banger or if you just want a new-season update on your current style, come in for a chat with one of our Sloans stylists who can talk you through what will work best for your face-shape and your general style and we will find the fringe for you!
